AAP's Matilda files papers for ZP by-poll

Having opened its account in Benaulim in the Zilla Panchayat polls, the Aam Aadmi Party has now zeroed in on Navelim in the ensuing ZP bye-poll.

Party candidate Matilda D’Silva on Wednesday filed her papers for the Navelim ZP bye-poll before the Returning Officer, John Fernandes accompanied by party spokesman Adv Surel Tilve, Benaulim ZP member Hanzel Fernandes, Party leader Capt Venzy Viegas, Melvyn Periera and others.

After filing the nomination, Adv Tilve told the media that after the victory of the party candidate in Benaulim, people all over are looking at AAP differently and as an alternative.

“It’s not only in Benaulim but across Goa and entire India, that people are now looking at AAP as an alternative. We have seen this in the local bodies election in Maharashtra, Gujarat and today in Delhi, where the party has won four out of the five seats at stake,” he said.

The AAP spokesman said the party's Navelim bye-poll candidate has promised to make available health and other facilities to the people of the constituency and work for the people. “The people of Benaulim had reposed their trust in AAP candidate. I am confident that Navelkars will vote and elect AAP candidate to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat,” he added.

Candidate Matilda D’Silva said she would work to provide basic facilities such as power and health to the people and try to solve the garbage problem facing the constituency.
