MARGAO
Around a month after Goa Lokayukta ordered a probe into the Margao Municipal Council tender case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has finally begun its probe into the tenders on Friday.
An ACB team headed by a DySP accompanied by an Additional Director of Municipal Administration descended in the MMC on Friday to conduct a probe into the matter.
The team is believed to have collected copies of the tendered works as part of the investigations. The investigating team accompanied by Margao Municipal engineers also visited some of the sites where the MMC was scheduled to take up the various development works.
This is the first visit to the MMC by the ACB investigating team since outgoing Goa Lokayukta Justice P K Misra had ordered a probe into the tender case by an officer not below the rank of a DySP.
In fact, Justice Misra had observed in the Margao Municipal tendering case that it is not uncommon in Goa about works taken up without following proper procedure and at times the duplication of works already completed. He had also observed that Chief Secretary, being the head of the ACB is required to maintain strict vigil as it is not uncommon in Goa about many such works being taken up without following proper procedure.
