The accident streak on the newly inaugurated Porvorim elevated corridor continues as another mishap was reported in the early hours of Friday, with a Hyundai Creta rent-a-car crashing into the median near the Guirim approach road around 2.30 am.
The vehicle was carrying a family from Mumbai who had come to Goa for the Ganesh festival. The family was returning after immersing their Ganesh idol when the accident occurred.
According to preliminary information, the car skidded on the approach road and rammed into the road divider. The front portion of the vehicle was damaged in the impact, while the occupants sustained minor injuries.
The latest mishap adds to the growing concerns over road safety on the newly opened corridor, where a series of accidents have been reported since it was thrown open to traffic.
The incident also comes amid continuing concerns over vehicle speeds and safety arrangements on the elevated corridor, particularly at its approach and merging points.
Authorities had earlier introduced restrictions and subsequently announced measures including rumblers, signboards and cameras following accidents on the corridor.
The latest crash has once again brought the focus on whether motorists are being adequately warned about road conditions and potential hazards along the newly opened route.
