PANAJI: Atal Setu access from the Merces side has been reopened for motorists heading towards Porvorim and Calangute, as authorities work to ease congestion around the Porvorim Elevated Corridor.
According to a travel advisory issued by SP Traffic, motorists travelling from Merces towards Porvorim/Calangute, except two-wheelers, can use the Atal Setu from the Merces side with effect from today. They will have to exit the bridge near Hotel Neo Majestic, Porvorim, before the entry point of the elevated corridor.
The revised arrangement follows Monday’s review of traffic movement around the corridor. The entry and exit points had earlier been barricaded following a crash near Neo Majestic that claimed two lives. The restrictions had also raised concerns over access for local commuters and increased pressure on service roads.
The reopened connection provides an additional route for motorists while authorities work on wider traffic management measures around the corridor. However, clear signage and lane markings at both exits are yet to be implemented.
