Mormugao Councillor Murari Bandekar on Thursday afternoon cleaned up an area near old PWD quarters and also shifted the garbage bins away from the roadside, following complaints of accidents due to stray cattle.
According to information, the place had roadside garbage bins but many people would throw garbage by the roadside, attracting stray
cattle to the site.
A number of minor accidents were reported in the area, as motorists were unable to sight the stray cattle
feasting on garbage in the dark.
As complains began to grow, Bandekar decided to clean the area on priority and on Thursday morning, cleared the garbage with the help of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) workers and also
shifted the bins to a distance away from the roadside.
“We have a daily door-to-door garbage collection and yet, people choose to throw garbage by the roadside. The garbage raises a stink and also attracts stray cattle that cause accidents. We cannot do much if people don’t use the door-to-door garbage
collection facility. However, I
decide to push the bins far away from the road.”
“I also appeal to residents to refrain from throwing garbage in the open,” the
Mormugao councillor said.
