As many as 84 of the 8000-odd Commerce graduate candidates got a zero in one of the two papers in the recruitment exam conducted in January by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education for the posts of Accountants.
One of the candidates even secured a duck in both the papers.
According to the detailed results uploaded by the Directorate of Accounts on Friday, only 13 candidates managed to cross an aggregate of 100 marks in both the papers, but fell short of the qualifying standards -- 50 marks in paper-I and 60 marks in paper-II.
Meanwhile, principals of some of Goa’s Commerce Colleges have taken the initiative to get copies of the two question papers. The principals are keen on analysing the question papers before commenting on the quality of education in their institutions, an issue which has come into sharp focus after the alarming results of the recruitment exam were announced.
All the 8000-odd candidates who appeared at the exam were declared to have failed to make the qualifying grade by the Directorate of Accounts earlier this week triggering an uproar from Opposition political parties who had questioned the credibility of the recruitment exam as well as the standard of education imparted in Goa’s undergraduate Commerce Colleges.
Director of Accounts, Prakash Pereira had said, in the results announced on Tuesday, none of candidates have cleared the test.
“I hereby declare that no candidate, who appeared for the initial recruitment examination for the post of accountant (direct recruits) held on January 1, 2018, has secured the minimum qualifying marks necessary for passing,” Pereira had said.
More than 10,000 candidates had applied for the posts and were eligible to answer the written test, but a little over 8,000 actually answered the written test which was conducted in January
this year.
