Accused gets relief from HC in assault case

The Children's Court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail filed by one Alexio Pereira and Diogo Gracias, both from Utorda, in connection with a case of assault and for causing panic among children by firing rounds in the air.

The accused then moved the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court, which admitted his petition, and granted interim relief, informed Verna PSI Anand Shirodkar.

It may be recalled that Verna police had registered an offence against the duo for assault.

Alexio was accused of assaulting his mundkar, one Milroy Pereira, who gives tuition classes, after vehicles of students were parked in his property.

The accused also allegedly assaulted Custodio, Milroy's father, and fired two rounds in the air with his rifle, causing panic among the students.

Verna police have registered offence under Arms Act, IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children's Act.

The Margao police have nabbed a minor, who is suspected to have committed theft of cash and some gold ornaments, all worth about Rs 1.90 lakh. Acting on the complaint lodged by one Ataullah, a resident of Mandop, the police nabbed the minor who is suspected to have broken open the main door lock of the house and committed theft of the items.
