Accused in Mandovi bridge accident granted bail

PANAJI

The North Goa District and Sessions Court has granted conditional bail to Odisha native Ankit Triparty, involved in the fatal accident on Mandovi Bridge where bike rider Javed Sadekar lost his life.

The Court has directed the accused to provide surety to the Court, not leaving the State without permission, cooperating with the police investigation, and not tampering with the evidence among other conditions.

Triparty is currently lodged in Colvale Central Jail for driving the rental car in a drunken and reckless manner, which resulted in the death of 38-year-old Sadekar - incident that occurred about a month ago.

The victim was riding a bike when the speeding car veered into the wrong lane and collided head-on with the bike. The impact was such that Sadekar fell into the river and was found dead two days later.

Meanwhile, as a part of its ongoing drive to curb accidents and ensure road discipline, the Panaji traffic police on Friday took out a march with placards displaying 14 important road safety rules. The drive was held from the Panaji bus stand to the bridge.
