The Maina Curtorim police have achieved a breakthrough in the Akhtar Raza murder case with the arrest of Sandeep Gupta, a 22-year-old native of Bihar, but presently staying at Dicarpale. The murder had taken place at Nessai in Sao Jose de Areal village on Thursday.
Cracking the case within 24 hours, the police have attributed the murder to robbery, wherein the accused, who is running a general store at Dicarpale, allegedly robbed the deceased of the cash on his person by assaulting him on his head.
The accused is believed to have later smashed the head of the deceased with a heavy stone to cover up the crime, informed an official on Friday.
Another official informed that Raza used to sell fish in and around Dicarpale and was carrying cash with him on the fateful day.
“All acquaintances of the deceased were thoroughly checked and all CCTV cameras in the vicinity were minutely watched to gather necessary leads into the investigation. The efforts from police team led to the arrest of the accused,” the official said.
