Action, lesson to others doing illegal businesses: Sarpanch

OLD GOA: Supporting the action by panchayat authorities, Merces Sarpanch Pranita Kalangutkar said this should serve as a lesson to others who think of starting illegal business in Merces.

The statement was made when The Goan questioned the sarpanch whether this type of action would be initiated in entire Merces as well.

To another question on the action taken without following proper procedure, Kalangutkar replied, “Before we have followed all rules, but in spite of that, such activities continued because of some powers, some influence. Why don’t you ask these questions to the authorities who are promoting these illegalities? If government departments are supporting these illegalities, then why is the panchayat questioned?”

“No permission has been granted to Niyaaz. There is nothing on record. When outsiders are doing such illegal businesses, action has to be taken. Appreciate everybody who took part in initiating the action,” Kalangutkar said.

“People doing businesses should also think whether it will benefit the society and the village. There has to be some revenue generated by the panchayat. The panchayat earns no revenue as everything here is illegal. I appeal to all doing business here they should understand that the entire village has to prosper and not only them,” Kalangutkar informed while adding that if they do all legal process through concerned departments, the panchayat is willing to cooperate. “I am not against anyone doing business,” she concluded.
