PANAJI
For the last few days, some unknown persons are doing illegal construction work at the Jetty opposite the Old Ribandar Hospital. The jetty which was traditionally used by local fishermen is owned by the Government and surprisingly authorities have taken no action against the illegal construction at the jetty.
Local activist Adv Aires Rodrigues on Friday through a complaint with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and the Greater Panaji Planning and Development Authority (GPPDA) has tried to bring to the notice of these authorities about the illegal work being carried out at the jetty opposite the Old Ribandar Hospital.
Earlier Ports Minister Michael Lobo had denied that any permission was given to any private agency to occupy the jetty. Lobo has even said that if permissions are given then it will be revoked.
The Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate has also opposed privatisation of Jetty.
In his complaint, Adv Rodrigues has brought this to the notice of authorities and has sought that the authorities conduct an immediate inspection and demolish the illegal structure while also prosecuting the violators of law in accordance with the law.
The Ribandar Health Care Committee has already urged the Captain of Ports not to allow any commercial activity at the jetty as the road in front of the Old Ribandar Hospital is very narrow and that there would be further congestion once the proposed 30-bedded Health Care centre is functional there.
