MARGAO
Asserting that Goa is not a destination for sex tourism, women’s rights activist, Auda Viegas on Wednesday lodged her complaint with the Margao police demanding registration of an FIR against the online promoters of sex tourism for indecent representation of women and other related offenses.
Taking strong exception to the indecent representation of women on online websites, Auda demanded action against the online sex trade promoters claiming that college girls, university students, housewives and call girls are available at the Basilica of Bom Jesus.
“The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a 408-year-old religious and historical monument frequented by Christians and people of all faiths. It is an UNESCO world heritage site of national and international repute. There can be no greater damage then to project it in such a despicable and cheap advertisement,” she told the media on Wednesday.
“I have lodged my complaint with the Margao police against the shocking sex tourism promotion advertisement which represents women of Goa in a manner so as to tarnish their image. The online websites are portraying women of Goa as available for commercial sexual activity,” she said.
While demanding that the police register an FIR and investigate the people behind the advertisement, Auda demanded further that the police book the culprits under the relevant sections of the law.
She also demanded the intervention of the government in the matter.
