Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Tuesday raised serious concerns over the police investigation into the brutal attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar, alleging that a minister, whom he termed the “Godfather General,” may be the real mastermind behind the assault. Ferreira criticised the police for claiming that Zenito Cardozo was the mastermind.
“The SP’s statement that the attack was due to previous enmity with Zenito appears suspicious. It seems aimed at protecting someone and stopping further investigation,” he said.
The MLA highlighted the brazen nature of the attack, which occurred in broad daylight in a crowded area.
“The assailants came openly, without helmets or masks. Such an act could not have taken place without backing from a powerful person,” he said.
Challenging the official narrative, Ferreira questioned the evidence supporting the alleged motive. “There are eyewitnesses to the attack. How did the police establish previous enmity? Is there sustainable evidence? By claiming Zenito is the mastermind, the police risk closing the case prematurely,” he said, urging authorities to examine call records, messages, and other communications to establish a conspiracy link.
Ferreira also hit out at the State government, demanding that the chief minister drop what he termed “goonda ministers” from the cabinet. “We know who they are, the police know, and the government knows. Unless the BJP government cleans itself of such elements, law and order will continue to collapse and gang wars will only rise,” he warned.
