Police have claimed that the deceased, Rajesh Nagush Nistani, who was gored to death at Majorda on Monday morning, was attacked by a bull just before the two bulls could actually lock horns at the planned bullfight.
Superintendent of Police, South Tikam Singh Verma informed that the incident at Majorda occurred during the preparation of the planned bullfight. He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the two bulls were all set to lock horns before the incident occurred wherein one of the bulls gored Rajesh Nagush Nistani to death. “The actual bullfight did not take place. Our inquiries have revealed that the incident took place in the preparation of the bullfight,” he said.
Sources informed that the two bulls were all set to enter the arena for the fight which was attended by a large number of bullfight lovers. Police sources, however, said that before one of the bulls could enter the arena, the other bull reported turned towards the adjoining bushes. The deceased, sources said, was gored to death when attempts were made to get the bull back to the arena, sources said. The SP pointed out that three persons, who had come to witness the bullfight, sustained injuries in the incident.
A statement issued by the police stated that the accused persons organised a bull fight between two bulls namely “Godfather” and “Chando” for the entertainment of the public in an open field, knowing well that the bullfight had the potential to cause serious injuries or even death of public and were fully aware that fight between bulls will pose risk.
“Despite this, the accused managed to organise the bullfight by endangering human life without proper care and caution and during the organisation one of the bull “Chando” got aggressive and moved in the public and gored a person namely Rajesh Nagush Nistani, r/o Guirdolim causing him grievous bodily injuries, who was the member of public, resulting to his death while undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital, Margao,” the statement added.
Autopsy reveals victim died of chest injuries from pointed object
MARGAO: Autopsy conducted on the body of the deceased at the South Goa district hospital has certified the cause of death as “Damage to right lung as a result of puncture penetrating injury to chest”.
The report further stated that the deceased sustained multiple similar injuries on chest, waist and limbs caused by a blunt, elongated, pointed object, which was fresh at the time of death and necessarily fatal.
The doctors have prepared the materials of evidential value for serological examination including blood for DNA profiling. The dead body was later handed over to the family for final rites.
Police promise accountability in tragedy
MARGAO: District police chief, SP Tikam Singh Verma has on Tuesday assured that appropriate action will be initiated if any lapse comes to light during investigations into the Majorda bullfight incident.
He told the media on Tuesday that investigations into the case are underway. “If any lapse comes to light during the course of inquiry, appropriate action will be initiated,” he warned.
Meanwhile, the district police have said that the Colva police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident. The names of the arrested persons, includes, Santano Cardozo, a resident of Curtorim, Joaquim Pereira and Jose Cardozo both residents of Majorda.
They have been arrested under Section 105 read with Section 3(5) of BNSS and under Section 11(1)(m) (n) Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.
