Aldona MLA alleges corruption and politics

Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Tuesday lashed out at the government for failing to maintain roads, accusing it of corruption, petty politics, and putting lives at risk.
Speaking to the media, Ferreira said, “During the Congress regime, roads were well-maintained. Now, potholes are worsening, service roads are cracking and people are getting injured.
Even after underground cabling works, roads were left unrepaired. In my constituency, residents threatened court action before the Chief Engineer issued work orders, yet progress remains slow.”
He highlighted that contractors handling road works across multiple constituencies are overextended, leaving projects incomplete. “Before the rains, 90 per cent of work was promised, but barely 40 per cent is done. People are falling and getting hurt. In Porvorim, a man even died due to potholes,” he said, recalling another near-accident in Sangolda.
Ferreira targeted PWD Minister Digambar Kamat’s office, questioning the handling of service roads for ongoing flyover projects. “Quality is compromised, and public safety ignored. Why aren’t roads maintained? If work is done properly, money must be spent,” he said.
He also alleged selective neglect, pointing out poor roads even in BJP-held constituencies. “Is this deliberate to unsettle incumbent MLAs and influence votes?” he asked.
Taking a swipe at the ruling party’s governance, Ferreira added, “This government celebrates its so-called achievements while looting public resources. They came to power
through political splits and seem unconcerned about the 2027 mandate. They are making hay while the sun shines.”
