Social activist Olencio Simoes along with Gopi Naik joined the Indian National Congress on Sunday afternoon at the induction ceremony held at Pajentar, Cortalim.
Simoes and Naik joined the Congress in the presence of the GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition and former CM Digambar Kamat, Indian Youth Congress National Secretary Akhilesh Yadav, GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar and others.
Simoes along with committee members of Goa United Workmen Union (GUWU) and Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott submitted memorandum to Girish Chodankar and Digambar Kamat to solve the long pending demands of fishing community and workmen issues of Goa.
“I request the Congress to take up demands of the people to de-notify the nationalisation of six rivers nationalised, scrap the three linear projects and MPT port expansion plans including Proposed Terminal Capacity enhancement at berth 5A, 6A, deepening of Approach Channel and Inner Basin for capsize vessels, work of re-development of Berth Nos. 8, 9 and barge berths and POL berth at Khariwado bay, etc,” said Simoes.
“I along with Congress will work towards complete overhaul of the administrative system in Goa while claiming that every department had failed taking Goa behind after 60 years of independence. Goa has only one hope either vote for BJP and destroy Goa or vote for Congress and save Goa as there is no other option,” said Simoes.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar stated that the legacy of Matanhy Saldanha was destroyed by BJP and Congress always respected him and his vision for Goa.
