Even as the Colva police has traced one of the three missing minor girls from a children’s home, children’s rights activists have questioned the rationale behind housing the minor victim girls in a private children’s home without reuniting them with their parents.
The Colva police had registered a case of kidnapping after three minor victim girls, who were lodged at a children’s home from the Apna Ghar, went missing from the home on Tuesday.
The Colva police have managed to trace one of the three missing girls, even as the search is on to trace the other two girls.
Following a complaint lodged by the in-charge of children’s home, the Colva police has registered a case under section 363 of the IPC and under section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.
Colva police station in-charge, PI Theron D’Costa informed that the in-charge of the children’s home has complained to the Colva police that between 00:30 hrs and 01:30 hours on December 5, three minor girls were kidnapped by unknown persons from the lawful custody of the complainant.
The Police has traced one of the missing girls. The search is on to trace the remaining two girls, he added.
Children’s Rights Activist Auda Viegas, however, has questioned the rationale behind the decision of CWC to send the three minor girls to the private children’s home when the right persons to take care of the victim girls was their parents. “If the government cannot take care of the minor victim girls at the Apna Ghar, is it possible for a private children’s home to protect the victims. In this situation, the right place for the minor victim girls is to unite them with their parents”, Auda said.
