MARGAO
A former Margao deputy collector has come under the scanner of the NGOs and activists for allegedly passing an order, dropping proceedings in respect of a matter relating to conversion.
What has raised many an eyebrow among the activists is that the deputy collector’s orders does not at all reflect in the Roznama proceedings nor the records obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act show any outward number of the Order. Addressing the media in the presence of President of United Goans Foundation, Dr Ashish Kamat, president of Colva Civic and Consumer Forum, Judith Almeida demanded a thorough investigation into the role played by the former deputy collector and urged action against him.
“This is a matter concerning CRZ case which was taken suo moto by the High Court. We will place the shocking revelations before the High Court for further action against the official”, she added. Relying on the Roznama copies, Judith pointed out that the proceedings showed that the Presiding Officer (deputy collector) busy due to administrative work on September 7, 2016, hence matter adjourned and fixed on October 19, 2016. “Subsequently, the case was adjourned from October 19 to March 18, 2017 as each time, the Presiding Officer was busy”, she said. She pointed out that these notings on the Roznama were just scribbled upon/cancelled across without assigning any reason.“In this case, the then deputy collector in 1998, after due and diligent investigations ordered the structure of a commercial venture in Sernabatim to be demolished. The same was appealed before the Administrative Tribunal and the case was sent back to the Deputy Collector to follow due process and take action,” Judith stated.
