The committee, which is in the final stage of completing its work, has completed meetings in ten talukas; while the meeting in talukas of Mormugao and Salcete are scheduled on April 17 and April 23 respectively. Once these are completed, the committee will hold two district-level consolidated meetings of all the stakeholders in South and North Goa.
Once the hearings are completed, these suggestions and recommendations will be discussed at the meetings of the advisory committee and the same would be compiled in the form of a report and submitted to the State government.
Speaking to The Goan, Committee Chairman Bhaskar Nayak said, “After the Committee was granted extension, we have held meetings in three talukas “ Sanguem, Canacona and Cuncolim. The meetings with stakeholders will conclude on April 26 with the last meeting scheduled in Margao on April 26. Then we will have general hearing in both the districts, only after which we will prepare the report. We want to focus more on improving the quality of education.”
The State Government on July 15 had constituted a 17-member ‘advisory committee’ under the chairmanship of Director of Higher Education Bhaskar Nayak to advise the government on arriving at an appropriate decision as regards the MoI issue. The committee is required to hold extensive consultations with various stakeholders in education and submit its report within a period of 120 days. The Committee was then granted an extension of another 90 days as it was unable to give its report within 120 days. Currently another extension of 90 days has been granted to the committee
till May 15.
