After a gap of two years, the Murgaoncha Raja Ganesh Mantap has become a star attraction in port town, attracting devotees from different parts of the state.

The Murgaoncha Raja has been decorated and themed with artificial waterfalls at various locations at the site.

The huge idol of Ganesh has been placed at the centre with revolving effigies of Shankar and Parvati (Parents of Lord Ganesh) at the sides and the entire Mantap resembles a set of a mythological film.

A large number of devotees have been visiting the Mantap, which is packed at all times of the day, with the crowd forced to stand out during the Arti programme in the afternoon and night.

The mantap is themed in such a fashion that they have to pass through ankle-deep artificial water stream which ensures that legs of the devotees are automatically cleaned and washed before they can go towards the Ganesh idol to offer prayers.

Hundreds of visitors are also offered Mahaprasad (lunch and dinner) on all days and the mantap has this year also organised a lot of social, cultural, musical and religious events.

Speaking to reporters, Suraj Chodankar alias Balan said the Murgaoncha Raja has been the most prominent Ganesh Mandal in the Sada area of the Mormugao constituency.

Umesh Mandrekar of Murgaoncha Raja Ganesh Mantap said the enthusiasm among members was high this year after the restriction were removed for public celebrations.
