After Benaulim, AAP resolves to free Goa of Commission Raj

MARGAO

Having kicked off the commission-free governance module from Benaulim, the Aam Aadmi Party has now resolved to take the same to the Velim constituency before the entire State is finally free from the Commission Raj.

Addressing the media, AAP MLAs from Benaulim Venzy Viegas and Velim Cruz Silva said the common man would benefit immensely from the commission-free governance module as they can get the public works executed on time and with quality.

That’s not all. The duo said since no commission will be insisted from the public works, the contractors would come under the scanner of the locals who would go all out to check the quality of the work in question.

The Benaulim MLA said he has taken the first step in his constituency by denying him the 10 per cent commission from the road hot-mixing work. “The module will be taken to Velim before it spread to the entire State”, he said.

Venzy said the module would also bring back Goan engineers and contractors to go for the tenders since they would not be required to pay the 10 per cent commission.

“Many Goan contractors had stayed away from the government works because of the commission factor since they had to arrange the money before taking the works. The commission-free governance should hopefully bring the Goan contractors back to take up public works”, he added.

He said the concept would empower the local populace to check the quality of the public works being executed in their locality.

“Money spent on public works is taxpayer's money. Commission-free governance would only benefit the taxpayers”, he said

AAP Velim MLA Cruz Silva said the commission paid to the politician delays the work and cast doubts on the quality. "The contractors cannot maintain the quality of the works. Roads remain incomplete as the contractors fall short of money after paying the commission”, he added.
