After Chandor, 'Chalo Davorlim' on tracks now!

After Chandor, 'Chalo Davorlim' on tracks now! Davorlim railway crossing.

MARGAO
Chalo Davorlim. That’s a call given by the organizations leading the anti-track doubling and coal transportation, in the wee hours of Monday from Chandor, if the government and the district Collector, South do not revoke the order authorising the Railways to execute work of laying the double track at Davorlim on November 9.

After successfully laying five hour-long siege on the tracks at the Chandor railway crossing since midnight to 5 am on Monday, the time when the Railways were expected to lay the double track at the crossing, Goyant Kollso Naka co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai said people of Goa will come out in large numbers at the Davorlim railway crossing on the midnight of November 9 if the district collector does not revoke the order. “Today, around 5,000 Niz Goenkars turned up at Chandor to protect their health and save the state for posterity. I can assure you that double the number of people will flood the Davorlim railway crossing if  the south district collector does not revoke the order,” he warned.

Complimenting the people for showing solidarity with the ongoing movement by turning up in large numbers at Chandor, Abhijit cautioned that the people will have to take several more steps to take the battle against coal to its logical conclusion. He, however, exuded confidence that people of Goa will take the steps together.

“Today, this is a big victory for the people, those present here and those who could not make it to Chandor. You have stopped the Railways from executing the work of laying the double track. Your efforts today have been 100 per cent successful. We are confident that all our future steps will give us success,” he added.

Abhijit warned that what has happened at Chandor will be repeated in Davorlim with greater number of people if the collector does not pay heed to the demands and revoke the order authorising the Railways to undertake the work on November 9. “All the people who turned up at Chandor will return back at Davorlim with two more people to show the government that Goans are not sleeping but are awake”, he said.

Saying the Chandor midnight protest is a golden moment in this history of Goa, he, however, said “this is not a two day battle, but the people should brace up for a long journey in the fight against the Adanis and Jindals to protect our people and save the lives of our future generations,” he added.
