PANAJI
After a resident of Panaji filed a complaint on the prime minister's portal regarding irregular water supply, the junior engineer of PWD Amey Lawande has been transferred from the Panaji division.
The complainant Sanjay Sarmalkar, who has been raising issues related to the contaminated well water supply through tankers, complained in March 2020 about the irregular water supply of portable drinking water, highlighting the failure of the PWD engineer.
Sarmalkar had alleged a nexus between PWD officials and tanker mafias.
He also raised this issue on the prime minister's portal and the administration acted on the issue.
The Public Works Department in a letter dated February 15, 2021, has informed Sarmalkar that the concerned engineer has been transferred from the Panaji division to Porvorim taking cognizance of his complaint.
The PWD has also informed that the overall supply to Panaji city has been improved by the commissioning of a 27 MLD water treatment plant at Curti from January 2020.
The PWD has also informed that the supply of water will be further improved after the completion of a new pipeline network under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) project.
