It may be recalled that some persons had demolished their huts on October 16.
South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik on Wednesday along with Ponda Deputy Collector Paresh Fal Dessai and officers concerned visited the Nirankal area.
According to Naik, there are 17 families and 78 members of Makadmare tribe. “According to report submitted by Mamlatdar and deputy collector, there were 17 families when the incident occurred,” he said. It is learnt only 17 families will get compensation.
When contacted, Naik informed The Goan that making them permanent citizens of the area would be difficult because the issue is complicated. “This land issue is very complicated as Comunidade has leased it to forest and nothing is clear,” he said.
