Chimbel sarpanch election on Nov 4
OLD GOA: The election to the Chimbel sarpanch will be held at a special meeting in the panchayat office on November 4.
The election is necessitated after incumbent sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar tendered her resignation as part of an agreement among the ruling panchas to share the post for an equal term.
Meanwhile, the election to the Merces sarpanch has not yet been declared even though the Merces sarpanch had resigned long before the Chimbel sarpanch.
It may be recalled that last time too, the Merces sarpanch’s election was delayed, with two postponements, forcing the ruling panchas to allege political interference at the behest of disgruntled elements.
Last week, locals had staged a 'dharna' against the panchayat authorities for not convening the gram sabha for more than six months and the authorities are awaiting for the new sarpanch to be elected before holding the gram sabha. This delay in declaring the sarpanch’s election would mean a longer wait for the Merces locals.
