Salvador do Mundo Deputy Sarpanch Dattaram Redkar was voted out of office on Monday when a no-confidence motion was passed against him by 5-0 in the nine-member panchayat.Five panch members, Sarpanch Roshni Savaikar, Krishnakant Chodankar, Namrat Chodankar, Bindiya Naik and Rajesh Savaikar, were present at the meeting and voted in favour of the motion, while four panch members, Dattaram Redkar, Sandeep Salgaonkar, Vijay Dalvi and Reena Fernandes remained absent.
Block Development Officer Prathamesh Shankerdas conducted the meeting and Panchayat Secretary Amit Prabhu assisted him.
The meeting was convened after the five panchas had submitted a notice of no-confidence motion to the Block Development Office at Mapusa on July 6. The BDO had issued a letter on July 13 fixing a meeting on July 20. However, Panchayat Secretary Amit Prabhu did not turn up for the meeting and hence, the no-confidence motion could not be tabled.
Since the BDO was not ready to fix the next meeting soon, Sarpanch Roshni Sawaikar filed a writ petition in the High Court of Bombay at Goa, seeking court intervention in the matter.
On hearing the matter, the High Court directed the BDO to convey a meeting on July 31 and to ensure that the democratic process is not scuttled in any manner.
Accordingly, as directed by the High Court, a special meeting was convened on Monday by the Block Development Officer in the panchayat office.
