The Benaulim fair price shop which hit the headlines after ration card holders complained of food grain shortage was back in action on Wednesday as it will now be run by the Varca-based fair price society headed by Nazario Pinto.
Wednesday saw the hustle and bustle returning at the Benaulim fair price after it was blessed by Fr Eremito Coutinho in the presence of Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, Benaulim ZP Member Hanzel Fernandes, Nazario Pinto and others.
The Benaulim MLA told the media that the fair price shop has now been handed over to the Varca-based society headed by Pinto from Wednesday.
“Operations at the fair price shop resumed on Wednesday after a smooth transfer of operation from the previous owner to the Varca-based society. The ration cardholders will start receiving the food grains from today (Wednesday),” he said.
The MLA thanked the people for their patience despite being inconvenienced in the last many days. He also thanked the shop owner Altone for renewing the contract to run the shop for the fair shop operations.
“We have closed the old chapter and opened a new one from today by keeping the interest of the people of Benaulim into account,” he said.
Nazario Pinto told the media that he would display his telephone number at the fair price shop for people to directly contact him in times of difficulties.
“The area where the fair price shop is located has poor network connectivity. Hence, I would like to request the people to contact him personally if they encounter any difficulties,” Pinto said.
Saying the Varca-based fair price society has been providing service to the people over the years without any problem, Pinto thanked the member of his society for electing him as Chairman for the last 18 years.
