VALPOI
Responding to growing anger by people regarding the poor condition of the main road in Valpoi town, the PWD patched up the potholes on the road.
The town road had deteriorated with several potholes, causing hardships and risks to motorists, commuters and pedestrians along the route.
People had made frequent demands with authorities to repair the main road and accused the PWD of ignoring their requests.
In a bid to highlight the issue, the Sattari Jagruti Yuva Manch (SJYM) planted saplings on the potholes in protest, prompting the PWD to repair the road.
Speaking to reporters, SJYM President Vishwes Prabhu said the joint effort by people and social organisations had forced the PWD to repair the potholes in the town.
“It was the responsibility of the GSIDC to have repaired the road, because it had constructed the road but had not handed it over, either to the Valpoi Municipal Council or the PWD till date,” said Prabhu.
“Many roads in valpoi town are in very bad condition and need urgent repairs. We appeal to local MLA Vishwajeet Rane to seriously look into the matter because these roads are very important to maintain connectivity to the various parts of the town,”
Prabhu added.
