Even as villagers have been waging a sustained battle against Raheja housing project because of serious road concerns, NOC given by the previous Carmona panchayat for a spa and resort in a residential project has come to haunt residents of Olvaddo ward of Carmona as they took to the streets to block resort guest and staff buses plying on a road with less than three metre width.

ors of the panchayat body not to renew the trade licence issued to the resort which expires on October 27, unless an inquiry is conducted into the legalities of issuing the trade licence for a project wherein the panchayat issued the Occupancy certificate for a residential complex.
Their contention is simple. How can a spa and resort get a trade licence when the approach road is around 2.5 metre and three metres at some places when the requirement is a 10-metre wide road.
Around 15 houses are located in the immediate vicinity of the resort and the movement of the 40-seater coaches has brought nightmares for the residents and the children. "Our children cannot play outside anymore since the resort was opened in the residential area. The movement of people going to the resort starts as early as 6.30 in the morning. There's so much traffic and we find it difficult to come on the road," informed Joe Coutinho, who has demanded revocation of the trade licence.
Another resident Maria Fernandes said even two-wheelers cannot pass on the narrow road when the huge buses come to the resort. "People of the locality had no issue when the project was started as row houses. Then they said the row houses will be converted into guest houses, but not, it has become a full-fledged resort. There's a vast different between row houses and resorts," she said.
Wenzy Viegas has demanded to know how the previous panchayat body and the previous sarpanch gave the NOC for a guest house when the Occupancy certificate was issued for a residential complex. "There is a big mismatch when the Occupancy certificate was given for a residential complex and the trade licence for a resort. All this has happened without the villagers' knowledge. The previous sarpanch will have to answer the villagers, who will now ask the present body not to renew the licence till all legal issues are studied," Wenzy said.
Sounding a warning, Wenzy said the villagers will block the project and demanded that huge 40-seater buses should immediately stop plying on the narrow road less than three-metre wide till the issues are dealt with. "The buses should stop plying immediately. We do not want to cry only after someone's death in an accident. Let the authorities take note of the villagers' grievances," he asserted.
