MARGAO
Four years after the Margao Municipal Council found the antique chandeliers in the municipal hall in a state of neglect, the civic body has finally issued a work order to an agency to repair the four units at a cost of Rs 2.49 lakh.
The Margao Municipal Council had, in 2022, decided to take up the repair of the non-functioning chandeliers. However, only three of the seven chandeliers could be repaired by the civic body without inviting quotations or floating a tender.
After reports emerged that the remaining four chandeliers had gone missing from the municipal building, senior civic officials clarified that the chandelier parts had been stored inside a cupboard pending repairs.
Facing criticism for keeping the chandelier parts in storage, municipal officials invited quotations for repairing the four remaining units.
The work order issued by Margao Municipal Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar directs the contractor to complete the repair work within 30 days. The contractor has also been instructed to use good-quality materials as per the accepted quotation.
The civic body will release payment as per the approved terms after satisfactory completion of the work and certification by the concerned officer.
The contractor has been directed to hand over defective, damaged or replaced parts to the Council and comply with all applicable statutory provisions during execution of the work.
