Chief Minister Pramod Sawant may have told the media that the Goa government had decided to scrap the marina project at ‘Nauxim’, but contradiction came to the fore at the Bombay High Court at Goa that was hearing a petition filed by M/s Kargwal Constructions Pvt Ltd. State Advocate General Devidas Pangam told the court that he was ‘not aware’ of the Goa government’s decision to scrap the project, if any has been taken.

M/s Kargwal has filed a petition before the High Court challenging the decision of the Goa government to repeatedly postpone the public hearing on the project. At this, Adv Carlos Ferreira who is representing a petition filed by the Revolutionary Goan led by Manoj Parab and Viresh Borkar challenged the decision of Mormugao Port to lease an area of one lakh square metres of water to the company intending to build a marina.

After hearing the matter briefly, the Advocate General told the court that he will make a statement next week to clarify the government’s position on the marina project.

On Tuesday, on the sidelines of a function in Porvorim held to coincide with Republic Day, the Chief Minister told the media that the Marina project has been ‘dropped’ and that no public hearing would take place.

“Marina will not come up now, so the hearing and other issues related to the project have been dropped,” Sawant had said.

The statement by the Chief Minister did not reflect the State government’s position before the High Court where the state Advocate General was stating that only the date of the hearing was not fixed owing to the present situation.
