Agassaim, Old Goa police crack three cases, rescue two minors

Stolen cash, foreign currency, documents recovered

PANAJI

Agassaim and Old Goa police have cracked three cases in a coordinated operation, rescuing two minor girls allegedly taken from their families, arresting the accused and recovering stolen cash, foreign currency and documents worth around Rs 12 lakh in a house-theft case.

The cases were investigated separately, with police teams from the two stations working across Goa and, in one case, travelling to Bihar to trace the accused and rescue the victim.

In the first case registered at Agassaim police station, police rescued a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly taken from the lawful guardianship of her family at Goa Velha. She was traced to Bihar. The case was registered on August 10 following a complaint from her family.

During the investigation, police gathered information that the accused had taken the girl to Bihar. A team headed by LPSI Deepika Pawar, along with police personnel Deepsantosh Parwar, Raju Attar and Santoshi Kalangutkar, travelled to Bihar and sought assistance from Refinery Police Station in Begusarai.

“The team tracked the accused’s movements and traced the girl at Noorpur in Begusarai along with 20-year-old Md Arbaaz, a resident of Nurpur under Refinery police station in Begusarai district. Arbaaz was arrested in Bihar on September 27 and subsequently brought to Goa on a transfer warrant. He was placed under arrest on October 1 after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Merces,” police said.

In the second kidnapping case, Old Goa police rescued a 14-year-old girl and arrested a 19-year-old man after tracking his movements for nearly 50 days. The case was registered after the girl left her residence at Madel, Chodan, on July 24. Her family suspected that she had been taken away by an unknown person.

A team comprising PSI Dhulapkar and police personnel Kishan Naik, Nilesh Sakhalkar and Nikhil Gawas worked on technical inputs and gathered information about the accused’s movements across another State and parts of Goa.

The accused, identified as Shanu, 19, from Bihar, was finally traced to Carambolim and arrested on October 1. Police rescued the girl from his custody.

In the third case, involving a house theft at Siridao, police recovered stolen property valued at around Rs 12 lakh. Joao Pires reported that his house was burgled between September 29 and 30.

Police said the accused entered the house by opening the main door and stole a bag containing around Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency, US$5,900 and £3,500 in cash, besides an original Portuguese passport, citizen card and OCI card.

“Agassaim and Old Goa police teams worked across Siridao, Agassaim and Goa Velha and traced the stolen property,” police said, adding that the accused in the theft case was being taken on record as part of the investigation.
