City-BJP leader Sharmad Raiturkar has deferred the agitation against the illegal roadside vendors, but has cautioned the politicians to stop backing the illegalities, saying they will wait for the meeting called by the South Goa district Collector Asvin Chandru on January 3 to decide the future course of action.
Addressing the media, Sharmad pointed out that the seven-day deadline served on the Margao Municipal Council to clear all illegal vendors operating from the roadsides and on gutters and drains expired on Tuesday. He, however, said they have decided to defer the agitation since the district Collector has called for a joint meeting on January 3 with the authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council to discuss the issues on illegal roadside vending in Margao.
“We will wait for the district Collector’s meeting to take place on January 3 before we decide our future course of action. We would like to request those backing the illegal roadside vendors to reconsider their support and patronage to the illegal vendors,” Sharmad said.
