NGO Team Goenkar inspected the premises of a bakery on Saturday, before lodging a complaint with the Canacona health officer.
“During the visit, it was noticed that the entire premises were shabby and unhygienic. The sewage tank was found open with worms breeding in it. The staff preparing the eatables were sweating and not in proper prescribed uniform. Their hair was also not covered,” informed Sandesh Telekar.
Vikas Bhagat said: “We wrote to the FDA on the same day and on Monday, we revisited the Canacona Health Centre and submitted a complaint. The Sanitary Inspector accompanied us to the bakery for an inspection.”
“The sewage tank was empty and clean on Monday, but other conditions had not improved much. Vegetables were found lying on the floor. The sanitary inspector gave verbal instructions and said a notice would be served on Tuesday,” he added.
Goenkar President Jack Fernandes added: “Our organisation is of the opinion that anybody, irrespective of origin, caste and creed, can come and do business in Canacona, but do not play with the health of the people.”
