PANAJI

With a boost from the agriculture department, the farmers have been cultivating more with community farming.

Agriculture Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavklekar on Tuesday announced that advance payment of subsidy to farmers will be introduced to facilitate more farmers to come together for community farming which will increase agriculture production.

Currently, the government is providing a 90 per cent subsidy for community farming wherein the farmers have to first pay all the amount and the subsidy is released later.

However, the government is planning to introduce a facility that farmers have to pay just 10 per cent of the amount and the government will directly pay the pending 90 per cent of the amount.

Minister Kavlekar informed that in the current year, 10 groups have been sanctioned for the subsidy component. He said that through these 10 groups 172 farmers are getting the benefit of the scheme and 76.42 hectares of land have been under cultivation with the scheme.

Kavlekar said that last year there were only three community groups and this year there are 10 community groups who have taken benefit of the scheme.
