Aguada lighthouse to be a tourist draw

Goa’s historical lighthouse at Aguada has been identified by the Ministry of Shipping as one among eight lighthouses that will be developed as centres of tourist attraction through a public private partnership mode, Minister of State for Shipping, Mansukh L. Mandaviya in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The lighthouse, which is part of the Aguada fort Complex maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India is an existing tourist attraction.

Besides Aguada, the lighthouses to be taken up in the first phase of development include Kanhoji Angre and Sunk Rock Lighthouse in Maharashtra, Minicoy Lighthouse in Lakshadweep, Mahabalipuram Lighthouse in Tamil Nadu, MuttomPoint in Tamil Nadu, Chandrabhaga Lighthouse in Odisha and Kadalur Point Kerala.

Fate of projects seeking ECs uncertain

The term of the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) which assists the Authority is set to expire on December 9 plunging into uncertainty the fate of projects that seek environmental clearance in the State.
