Mintoo case: Goa is not a hideout for criminals, DIG

A covert investigation has been initiated by Goa Police into extremist Harminder Singh Mintoo's links with Goa.

Mintoo escaped from Punjab jail on Monday and was arrested by the Delhi Police from a city railway station. The investigating agency later stated that Mintoo intended to travel to Goa and from Goa make good his escape from the country.

Speaking to the media at police headquarters, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Goa, Vimal Gupta said, “We did not have any official communication from the Delhi police. We are conducting a secret inquiry as to who were Mintoo's connections in Goa, and why he chose Goa as a safe spot. We are also looking into who are his sympathisers and what is his comfort level in Goa.”

DIG Vimal Gupta said that "it may just be a coincidence" that Mintoo chose Goa as a safe haven after his escape while insisting that this was not sufficient evidence to prove that Goa is a hideout for criminals from across the country.
