MAPUSA
A day after inaugurating the illumination project of a key road in Mapusa, the government initiated work on another project dear to Mapxekars “ the new bus-stand “ in the election year.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for work of the new interim bus-stand and assured to complete the Rs 3.5 crore project before the monsoons even as he pledged to take up work on the entire bus-stand at the earliest so that Mapusa gets a state of the art bus-stand.
“After completing the interim work of the new bus-stand, we will also work towards taking up the entire bus-stand project at the earliest.”
“Work on the interim bus-stand is scheduled to be completed within six months but we will try and complete it at the earliest and hopefully before monsoon,” Sawant said.
The chief minister was addressing a gathering while laying the foundation stone for the new interim bus-stand in Mapusa.
Local MLA Joshua D’Souza and several former councillors and GSIDC officials were also present.
Continuing, Sawant said Mapusa was always known for its market and the government will do everything possible to provide the town with all basic facilities.
He said the market sub-yard which did not have proper access will now be provided with a dedicated road during the construction of the new interim bus-stand.
He also said inter-state passengers who travelled to Goa by road and disembarked at the Mapusa bus-stand will now be provided with all necessary basic facilities at the new site.
GSIDC Vice Chairman and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said the long pending demand of Mapusa people was finally fulfilled with the laying of the foundation stone of the new interim bus-stand.
“During the by-election, the CM had promised to initiate the work on the new bus-stand. He has kept his word. It is a big project. Since we cannot take it at one go, we have planned to take it in phase-wise,” D’Souza said.
Former chairpersons of Mapusa Municipal Council Ryan Braganza, Sandip Falari, Rohan Kavlekar and Rupa Bhakta, ex-councilors Franky Carvalho, Sushant Harmalkar, Rajsingh Rane, Sanjay Mishal and others were present for the event.
