The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) will construct the new interim bus-stand in Mapusa at a cost of Rs 3.31 crore.
Apart from a roof-shed for passengers, the bus-stand will have a KTC office, room for drivers, canteen, kitchen area and a toilet block.
The interim bus-stand will also have 50 bus parking bays. A parking provision has also been made for 44 four-wheelers, 11 tempos, 15 rickshaws and 64 two-wheelers.
The entire area will be covered with pavers with a high mast in the middle.
There is provision made for a separate 7-metre wide road to the Mapusa market sub-yard adjacent to the bus bays.
The interim bus-stand will come up in an area of 6,000 sq metres. The entire bus-stand project will come up in an area of around 10,000 sq metres.
“We will construct the new interim bus-stand in such a way that none of it will be demolished while taking up work of the entire bus-stand project later,” said Jude Carvalho, General Manager of GSIDC.
The cost of the entire bus-stand project was estimated to cost Rs 210 crore.
Ironically, former CM late Manohar Parrikar wanted to construct the bus-stand project through the public-private partnership model.
He also was not in favour of taking up the project in phases but to complete it in entirety.
