Only 65 of the targeted 99 frontline Covid workers, including the Canacona deputy collector and mamlatdar, were vaccinated in the third round of the Covid vaccination drive in Canacona on Wednesday.
Canacona Deputy Collector Satish Prabhu and Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal led from the front, as many of their staff and municipal workers, besides policemen were administered the vaccine in Canacona.
“The third leg of vaccination drive was held in Canacona on Wednesday for the frontline workers and around 99 were targeted for the day-long drive,” informed Canacona Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares.
Dr Tavares said the frontline workers included traffic police and other policemen.
In the first drive, only 43 of 100 targeted frontline workers, including doctors, nurses and other medics were given the Covishield vaccine, while in the second drive 78 medical and other staff were administered the vaccine.
On Wednesday, the vaccines were given in the presence of Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares, medical officers Dr Diwakarji Velip and other staff.
Dr Tavares has reiterated that the Covishield vaccine is safe and said that the staff eligible for the vaccination drive should not avoid the jab, but take it for their safety and the safety of those around them.
