Raya Chodankar, father of Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar, on Wednesday, succumbed to Covid-19. The 82-year-old, who had been hospitalized at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on January 17, was among the two Covid-related deaths recorded in the State on Wednesday.
The Chodankar family has requested all to pray from home for the departed soul while informing that the funeral will be held by maintaining strict Covid protocol.
The other deceased person, a 45-year-old from Pajifond in Margao, was brought dead at Hospicio in Margao and tested positive for Covid post mortem.
With this, the Covid victim count of the State has climbed to 776.
Meanwhile, 72 new cases of the infection were detected from among the 1,740 samples tested in the last 24 hours. While the total confirmed cases have now touched 54,068, the active count is 698. Out of the total confirmed cases, 52,594 have recovered and the recovery rate stands at 97.27 per cent.
