The Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based cameras at Merces junction will begin generating challans to violating vehicle owners from March 20, after a month-long trial impressed the State government.
Bengaluru-based Beltech AI’s project Artificial Intelligence Driven Security, Integrated Traffic Management and e-Challan System was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday.
“AI will be used for traffic management and for security purposes as well. We can track vehicular movement through this technology, for which the company has invested Rs 40 lakh. The AI will detect and issue challans to the violating vehicle owners,” the CM said.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, also present at the inaugural, said that the new AI technology will provide a plan for traffic
management.
“Traffic signal software that we currently have are outdated or not functioning properly. The new software will streamline traffic and bring more discipline on the roads,” he said.
With the new technology, all the camera-fitted traffic signals installed by the Smart City will also be covered by the Bengaluru company under the PPP mode. This also includes maintenance of the traffic signals as other busy streets are soon to get this technology.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said that such signals are installed at 16 different locations in the State.
“The trial run at Merces junction was a success. The AI will officially start issuing e-challans to violators from March 20,” he said.
