Airfares from Goa to metropolitan spiked to Rs 15,000 to 20,000 a seat Thursday. Atish Fernandes, director, business development, First Class Holidays, said, “This was because of Defexpo as the demand for air-travel suddenly shot-up”
Just how much Defexpo increased the demand for airtravel becomes evident from the fact airfares from Goa to Bangalore just a day after March 31st have dropped to as low as Rs 3,100 per seat.
Although Defexpo was still on as March 31st was its last day, but foreign and Indian delegates had started heading back to metropolitan cities to continue with their business as usual.
People who visited Defexpo on the last day informed that public relations and strategic teams of many companies had already left as only few officials were taking care of the stall.
High airfares are otherwise unusual for this time of the year when the tourism season is nearing its end. As opposed to few locals who were opposing Defexpo, tourism trade had supported it saying that it would bring fruits for everyone.
And, if steep airfares are anything to go by, they were absolutely right in their expectation.
