A lot of old used and unused paper cups had been stored in a glass compartment on one side of the counter, while several soft drinks and aerated drinks along with packaged juices seem to have puffed up, but continued to remain in the display shelf, sources had told The Goan.
After a report highlighting the issue appeared in The Goan on Thursday, airport authorities swung into action and covered the counter with tarpaulin sheets.
Airport Director, BCH Negi had informed The Goan that the counter had bee
n closed for a long time due to legal issues, but had assured to cover the counter immediately to prevent a negative impression among tourists arriving at Dabolim airport.
An employee of a travel company hailed the airport director's action in the matter.
"The airport authority has taken a right decision of covering this closed counter. People arriving Goa will not see a dirty counter, while the plastic cover will block the foul smell," the employee said.
