PONDA
The workers in large numbers staged a rally in Ponda city to commemorate Workers (May) Day under the leadership of Adv Raju Mangueshkar. The rally culminated in a meeting opposite the Kranti Maidan. Prof Anand Mendse, who was the chief guest, felicitated noted stage artiste Ajeet Kerkar and social worker Lalan Kerkar on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Adv Mangueshkar said inflation is rising every passing day and minimum wages should also be increased to Rs 600. “We don’t want contractual systems, these should be put to an end. This system will never work in the welfare of workers, but it favours managements,” he said.
The AITUC passed a resolution to bar government from making amendments favouring company managements. “The government should come up with good industrial policy which will help workers. It is said that 80 per cent Goans should get jobs in companies, but it is not implemented. Hence, Goans are suffering,” Mangueskar said.
The AITUC also demanded permanent posting of a labour commissioner and the implementation of good schemes for workers under Provident Fund and ESI.
AITUC State President Praanna Utagi, Secretary Adv Suhas Naik and others were present on the occasion.
