Over 40 boxes of beer and rum valued at about Rs 9 lakh were seized at the Patradevi checkpost in Pernem on Sunday morning.
An excise team at the check post had stopped the truck, which was proceeding to Pune, for a routine inspection, when the driver presented them a fake letter by the Navy and stated that the cargo contained important Navy material.
The driver refused to allow them to check the vehicle and when the excise team became suspicious, he fled from the site and the alcohol was found in the vehicle.
