Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Thursday stressed the need for faster movement of government files and an end to bureaucratic delays while inaugurating the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the remaining work on a retaining wall at the Mae De Deus High School ground in Corjuem.
The project, estimated at Rs 37 lakh, involves the completion of the remaining portion of the retaining wall, a long-pending demand of the local community. The MLA reiterated his criticism of administrative delays, stating that government files should move faster to address public needs efficiently rather than getting caught up in bureaucratic procedures.
Ferreira said part of the retaining wall had been completed earlier and that the remaining section was critical to prevent a possible collapse.
“This was a long-pending demand. It had to be done; otherwise, it would have collapsed. We managed to fast-track the proposal and secure approvals despite several objections. Finally, the file was cleared and work could commence,” he said.
Ferreira expressed hope that the contractor would complete the project before the monsoon intensifies, despite the challenging weather conditions ahead.
Thanking the government for approving the project, he said the retaining wall was important for the safety of schoolchildren and villagers who regularly use the ground.
“Children come here to play, and we cannot risk any tragedy. This facility was necessary for the school, the institution and the local community,” he said.
Local chaplain Fr Jeronimo Afonso, Sarpanch Ashwin de Souza, Deputy Sarpanch Abhitnya Satardekar, panch member Babita Falkar, and other members of the Aldona panchayat were present at the function.
