Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Saturday inaugurated the newly upgraded burial ground at the Hindu Crematorium in Bogda. The project was taken up under the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) Scheme and carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The upgraded facility is expected to provide a cleaner and more dignified space for conducting last rites and address a long-standing concern of local residents who had been seeking improvements at the site. For several years, parts of the burial ground had remained neglected, with accumulated rubbish, overgrown vegetation and poor maintenance causing inconvenience to grieving families and visitors. Speaking at the inauguration, Amonkar said the project was undertaken after residents repeatedly highlighted the poor condition of the burial ground.
He said every family deserves a clean and respectful environment to perform the final rites of their loved ones and stressed that such basic civic facilities must receive proper attention.
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying the improvements have transformed the area into a cleaner, better-maintained and more accessible facility.
