Aldona MLA takes up bund repair work to give impetus to farmers

To give impetus to agriculture, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo has taken up the repair of various bunds in the village.

“We have beautiful hills and fields in Aldona and we need to maintain the greenery. During the pandemic, a lot of people have learnt the need to be self-sufficient and to cultivate fields. I have taken up a lot of work on various bunds in the constituency,” Ticlo said.

The Aldona MLA was addressing a gathering after launching work to strengthen the ‘Hatal Khazan’ bund at Corjuem in Aldona at Rs 1.68 crore.

Aldona Sarpanch Subhash Raut, ZP member Manisha Naik, local ward member Francis D’Souza, North Goa BJP Vice President Franky Carvalho and others were present.

The total length of the bund is around 800 metres and is expected to protect around 24 hectares of fields in the area. Around 40 farmers stand to benefit from the repair of the bund.

Speaking further, Ticlo said it was important to take up work on the bunds to encourage farming activity and also to avoid illegalities.

“If we neglect the bunds, illegal constructions come up and it becomes a mess,” he said.

He said work of Tollend khazan bund in Carona which was taken up at Rs 2.21 crore and Poreo bund in Pomuburpa-Olaulim at Rs 1.96 crore was nearing completion.

Aldona Sarpanch Subhash Raut said work of the bund was pending for a long time and thanked the MLA for taking the initiative to strengthen the bund.

North Goa District BJP Vice President Franky Carvalho informed that the government faced a lot of difficulties due to the Covid-19 crisis but despite constraints, the government has not shied away from taking up works.

ZP member Manisha Naik and ward member Francis D’Souza also spoke at the event.
