A Mapusa court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former Aldona sarpanch and present panchayat member Pranesh Naik, who has been booked for assault and issuing a threat with a firearm.
The Additional District and Session court has also directed the panchayat member to surrender before the police and cooperate in the investigation.
Early last month, a resident of Aldona Swapnil Pednekar had complained that the panchayat member had allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill him and his family.
Pednekar had also alleged that the accused had threatened him by pointing a revolver to his head.
Based on the complaint, Mapusa Police registered an offence against accused Pranesh Naik, resident of Aldona and Vicky Karande, Suraj Yadav and Dakshesh Kurpe (22) all native of Pune, Maharashtra
Soon after the incident the alleged accused Pranesh Naik was absconding and later moved an anticipatory bail application before the court.
According to the court, the role of the applicant was clear and quite obvious as that of the other three accused who were granted bail.
The court also said that the use of a firearm, its recovery and its source needed detailed investigation and therefore rejected the bail.
